Window of Worship, 2019
As part of the Southern Downs Regional Council Toilet Beautification Project
Grafton Street Toilet Block, Warwick, Queensland.
This work is one of the seven amenities blocks painted in the northern part of the Southern Downs in Queensland. The project was coordinated by Warwick Art Gallery with support from Southern Downs Regional Council with the aim to invigorate spaces, attract visitors and generate community pride. After many years of drought, events and tourism has kept the economy ticking and maintained community involvement despite the hardship. The Arts is an integral part of the tourism culture as it celebrates community identity and highlights what makes a town or village unique.
This patterned work is inspired by the many churches Warwick is known for. The design features elements from the rose windows of several places of worship, abstracting them to create a contemporary design that connects Warwick’s rich architectural and community history with today’s visitors.
